Factory fire prompts evacuation of area residents

LESLIE, Mich. (AP) -

A Michigan factory fire prompted officials to evacuate nearby residents as crews from multiple departments got the blaze under control.

The fire was reported around 8:10 p.m. Tuesday at ISC Plating in Leslie, about 20 miles southeast of Lansing. Rob Dale, Ingham County's deputy emergency manager, says three people needed treatment but injuries weren't considered life-threatening.

Dale says officials started evacuating residents in the area. But the Lansing State Journal and MLive.com report that testing showed no problems with dangerous chemicals, so officials then advised residents to stay in their homes and close their windows.

More than a dozen people sought shelter at a nearby school.

Dale says the fire was contained by midnight. Walls and part of the roof collapsed at the metal plating facility, which also houses offices.
