Murder suspect found dead at scene of Flint standoff

Posted: Updated:

Flint police said that the body of a murder suspect has been found inside a Flint home, which earlier Wednesday was the scene of a standoff.

Police say the body has been identified as 22-year-old Daron Gaylor, Jr.

After gunshots were exchanged with the suspect earlier in the evening, police brought in heavy equipment and removed the roof of the home where the suspect had taken refuge.  Gaylor's body was located in the attic of the home.

On Wednesday morning, more than a dozen Michigan State Police officers and a SWAT team responded to the area near Fulton and Sherman, on Flint's north end.

Officers used a battering ram to knock down a door at a home in the area.

Police entered the home about 5 p.m. and Daron Gaylor, Jr. was in the home.

He shot at police, and officers returned fire.

One officer was hit and suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Gaylor is wanted in connection with a homicide on June 2 on the corner of Martin Luther King Avenue and Welch Boulevard.

Police say he shot and killed one person, and wounded another.

Gaylor is also a person of interest in another homicide on July 5.

That happened on Witherbee Street, killing a man, and critically injuring an 8-year-old boy.

Flint Police Chief James Tolbert told TV5 Wednesday night Gaylor was given every opportunity to surrender before police breached the residence.

The scene was being processed late Wednesday night by the Michigan State Police Crime Lab.

Chief Tolbert said the body will be sent for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
