Dow Diamond introduces Pig Mac for food competition

MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

Most people think about peanuts and Cracker Jacks when they think about going to a baseball game.

"I think most people think of hot dogs, hamburgers, popcorn," said Andrea Noonan, executive chef at Dow Diamond.

But not anymore, with the new Pig Mac.

"The outside is a nice crispy crunchy breading, with the hot, cheesy, melted yumminess on the inside," Noonan said.

It's piles of pulled pork and creamy coleslaw all inside two patties of Dow Diamond's famous mac-and-cheese, deep fried and crispy. Then to top it off, it's drizzled with smokey barbecue sauce.

"Honestly, it's all items we already serve in the ball park. We just serve them together and gave them a facelift," Noonan said.

Noonan created the piled-high pork sandwich to stack up against the food at 60 other minor league's baseball parks in a competition called The Food Fight.

On the menu are things like a grilled cheese hot dog, a peanut butter and jelly donut sandwich, and a beer shake.

"Within the 60 entries there are a lot of versions of hot dogs or burgers dressed up a little bit. But I like to think we're one of the more unique items on the list," Noonan said.

The Food Fight is a way to bring fans out to games to try some crazy new creations.

"You'll see I chose to use p&k barbecue sauce which is made here in Michigan. We do what we can to keep Michigan products in the stadium," Noonan said.

The competition was decided by fans and the Pig Mac came in 11th place.

However, Noonan said she will put it on the menu if there is enough fan support.
