Man with gun robs 13-year-old girl, victim unmoved

An armed robber who pulled a gun on a 13-year-old girl remains at large Tuesday, after the victim said the encounter was a far from frightening event.

"He wasn't that tough," said the girl in an interview Monday. "I didn't think he was going to shoot me."

Richmond Police released new surveillance pictures of the suspect Monday. The man is accused of robbing the New China Garden Restaurant on Broad Rock Blvd. late Sunday.

The suspect can be seen in the surveillance still pictures wearing a black and white plaid shirt, with a blue bandana covering the lower portion of his face. The incident happened around 9:45 p.m. Sunday, with the suspect last seen running towards Kinsley Ave.

The 13-year-old helps her family of first generation Americans run the restaurant, and had no parents or siblings around when the incident unfolded.

"I wasn't scared," she said. "[The suspect] probably just needed money."

Although part of the man's face was concealed, the girl said she had seen the suspect around her family's restaurant before. In the minutes preceding the robbery, the man was also seen loitering near the entrance.

"He didn't get away with that much," the girl said. "We're going to be ok."

Anyone with any information about the suspect's identity is asked to call Detective Derrick Longoria at (804) 646-8171 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000. Citizens can also text Crime Stoppers at 274637, using the key word "ITip" followed by your tip. Both Crime Stoppers methods are anonymous.
