Local police department under investigation

OAKLEY, MI (WNEM) -

A local police department is under investigation by the state of Michigan.

The Oakley Police Department is under investigation by the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards and the Michigan Attorney General's Office, said David Harvey, executive director of the Michigan Commission on Law Enforcement Standards.

They are checking for violations of state statutes regarding police department operations, Harvey said.

The organization does not have jurisdiction over reserve officers, but will make sure those reserve officers did not cross the line and perform duties of sworn and certified police officers, Harvey said, adding reserve officers don't have any authority over other civilians.

The reserve officers received their badges by donating to the Oakley Police Department.

The Saginaw County village of 300 residents has a reserve police force of more than 100 officers.
