Chesterfield store clerk held at knife-point, then bound

Posted: Updated:

Chesterfield police are searching for a knife-wielding robber, who tied up a store clerk. Investigators report that the suspect held up the Cigarette Exchange store at Oxbridge Square Shopping Center, during the dinner hour.

The clerk wasn't harmed, but endured a chilling scenario, facing a knife and then getting bound and left in the back of the store.

An hour before closing, police say a man wearing all black walked into the Cigarette Exchange. He pulled out a knife and demanded money from the cashier.

The suspect also stole cigarettes. However, his raid wasn't finished. Police say the robber ushered the employee into the back room. He used cigarette carton ties to bind the worker. The robber took off out of the back of the store, leaving the clerk tied up.
"Nervous, very nervous," said Maria, an employee who works a few stores down from the cigarette shop. Maria declined to give her last name.

Maria says customers rushed to lock the door when they heard an armed robber had just hit the shopping center.

"They were kind of nervous and in a panic, so they just locked all the doors… and everybody just stayed inside," described Maria.

Meantime, police scoured the area. However, the suspect is still at large.

"It's uneasy. It does get your nerves a little rattled," continued Maria, about returning to work in the complex.

Police are asking anyone who knows anything about this robbery to call Crime Solvers at 804-748-0660. It's anonymous.
