Police seek suspect in alleged sexual assault

Posted: Updated:

Mt. Pleasant Police are investigating after a woman says a man sexually and physically assaulted her on Wednesday.

The alleged incident happened in the area of Walnut and Mills streets. The woman says she was walking when a man approached her from behind and forced himself onto her.

She says the man then carried out unwanted sexual contact and also physical assault.

The man is described as being 25-30 years of age. He is 5'9" to 5'10" and weighs approximately 150-160 pounds. He also has short dark hair and blue eyes.

"It makes you scared," Melissa Detty said.

The assault happened in her neighborhood. Now, Detty said she's on high alert.

"My kids stay with me at all times. Because there's too many molesters and sex offenders on the street for me," Detty said.

Detty said she is still in shock.

"I moved here to be safe and now look what's happening here," Detty said.

Another neighborhood resident is just as upset to learn about the crime that allegedly happened in the area.

"It's just disgusting," Nathanial George said.

George has an 11-year-old daughter. He's also on edge.

"As soon as I heard about that I made sure she was with somebody all the time like the buddy system," George said.

So far no arrests have been made in the case. Something Detty wants to see change soon.

"I hope they catch him and they put him where he belongs," Detty said.

Police are asking for the community's help in identifying the man. The sketch was completed by a forensic artist from the Isabella County Sheriff Department.
