Big Ten Media Day kicks off in Chicago

CHICAGO, IL (WNEM) -

It's the unofficial start of the college football season as players and coaches from the Big Ten meet the media in Chicago.

"I'm so excited," Doug Danne said.

Danne and his co-worker Marcus Rick had no idea they were sharing a hotel with the best players and coaches in Big Ten football.

The annual Big Ten Media Day took place in Chicago this week. Danne is in town for a medical conference this week. While the Spartan fan said he had no idea this event was taking place, he was glad to be there.

"I've sent five or six pictures back to my family in front of the Michigan State flags," Danne said.

Meanwhile Rick is looking forward to meeting some of his football heroes.

"I would like to see a Michigan State player and coach," Rick said.

Other fans said they're impressed with everything the host hotel, the Hilton Chicago, has done to add to the Big Ten football kickoff experience.

"It's amazing because I was here for our own conference earlier this week. And then you come back and it's transformed you know all the signs on the outside of the doors," David Williams said.

From the players in the revolving doors, to the decked out elevators, even the valet parking attendants. Everyone is getting in the act.

Williams and his family came to the windy city from South Carolina. Despite being in Gamecock country, Williams' son Peyton is a Michigan fan.

"Well their colors are cool. And I've always rooted for them," Peyton Williams said.

Peyton said he's already had the chance to see some players up close.

"They just said hey, and I was just looking at them because they were so big," he said.

Regardless of who they are rooting for, all the fans said they can't wait for the kickoff of a new season and the pursuit of Big Ten glory.

"I think it's 32 or 33 days and I'm looking forward to it," Danne said.
