Posted: Updated:

A contractor working on a Broadway Street project in Mt. Pleasant hit a gas main at Broadway and Henry.

The incident happened about 8:40 Wednesday morning.

During the incident six homes were evacuated within a 300-foot radius of the intersection, said Jeff Browne, public information officer.

Residents were able to return to their homes at noon.

There have been no injuries caused by the gas leak.

The incident happened while a contractor was replacing sewer and water lines, Browne said.
