ST. CHARLES, MI (WNEM) -

The Saginaw County Sheriff's Department is investigating a fatal vehicle accident in St. Charles.

The vehicle was traveling on Spruce Street and failed to negotiate a curve and crashed into a house on spruce, Saginaw County Sheriff's Lt. Randy Pfau said.

The house has been abandoned for four years and was unoccupied.

When witnesses tried to remove the driver, Patrick Muirhead, from the car they were swarmed by bees that were stirred up by the collision, Pfau said.

The vehicle was pulled away from the house by another vehicle with a tow strap. The Tri-Township Fire Department layed down foam to suppress the bees. It was then determined the Muirhead was dead, Pfau said.

The sheriff's department investigators believe Muirhead died from a medical issue not related to the crash.

An autopsy will be performed Thursday.

The St. Charles Police Department assisted in the case.
