More than 40 animals seized from condemned Holland home

HOLLAND, OH (Toledo News Now) -

Dozens of animals are in the care of the Toledo Area Humane Society after being removed from a house on Crissey Road in Holland.

On Wednesday, a horse was found with gashes on its body and unable to stand. The horse had to be put down. An animal cruelty investigation was initiated, and more than 40 chickens, horses, cats, dogs, pigs and ducks were removed from the home on Thursday.

The home was also condemned, and the owners have been forced to leave. Now the Humane Society has its hands full taking care of the animals.

"We [had to go] back and check on their well-being and [the owner] chose to move a lot of the animals in the middle of the night," said Gary Willoughby from the Humane Society. "So a lot of the dogs and cats disappeared. We found on Craigslist that she also was selling a lot of the chickens that she had in the house. Fortunately, an officer saw that and stopped it…called us, we got a search warrant."

Charges have not yet been filed in this investigation.
