Posted: Updated:

The Sisters of Saint Joseph of Springfield have reached an agreement to sell their 52-acre property in Holyoke.

The sisters reached a deal on the Mont Marie Campus with Tryko Partners, a nursing home operator out of New Jersey.

The sisters said Tryko will continue to operate the 84 bed Mont Marie Health Care Center on the property.

Among the positives, the sisters said those currently living in the center, as well as the senior residences, will be allowed to stay.

"It is arranged that we will continue to be able to use our beautiful chapel. We'll lease it for $1 a year," said Sr. Maxyne Schneider.

She said the chapel will still be able to be used for various event.

"We'll be able to have prayer, celebration of liturgy, celebration of sisters lives and jubilees and funerals, and our community meetings there," she continued.

The Sisters of ST. Joseph first arrived in the Springfield area in 1880.

They had called the Mont Marie campus home since 1962.
