Organizers prepare for Bermudas on the Bricks

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -
Casual Friday could be even more casual on Aug. 15 if some people have their way.

Bermudas on the Bricks organizers said it's all about giving adults the chance to let off a little steam, while also showing what downtown Flint has to offer.

"I think they are a conduit to some employees that probably live in the county, but haven't experienced downtown Flint," said Phil Shaltz, with Bermudas on the Bricks.

They want to encourage employers to let employees wear Bermuda shorts to work on Friday, then come or stay downtown for what organizers are calling an adult party.

"So you don't have to have your kids tagging along. And I think there's a fair amount of people in the county that haven't had the appropriate reason to come and experience downtown Flint. This gives them another option and another reason to participate in it," Shaltz said.

The city of Flint signed on for the day and at the announcement even the mayor was showing off his gams.

The mayor, along with a couple of other brave souls, were in Bermudas Monday. Mayor Dayne Walling said City Hall will be joining in that day.

"This is all about just having fun. I'll have my Bermudas on that day and we'll just enjoy it and show our community spirit and then hopefully folks will come down for the party that night," Walling said.

Shaltz said this could give Flint a leg up when it comes to getting people downtown to show them what Flint has to offer.

Organizers said it's not too late to join the fun for Bermudas on the Bricks.
