Shake-up hits local school district

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Dozens of parents turned out to a school board meeting to discuss changes being made by the district's new superintendent.

Thomas Hill was recently hired as superintendent at the Bridgeport-Spaulding School district.

Parents say he's made several changes, including firing high school principal Suzanne Brown.

But School Board President Martha Sageman says the changes are for the good of the district moving forward.

"We finally have a superintendent that really knows and understands finances, which we really haven't had that type of person in a while, so that's a big plus."

The school board president also said that Hill would like to eliminate the district's $2.3 million deficit in the next year.
