Deniro hopes sharing his story will lead to adoption

Posted: Updated:
A nine-year-old boy in foster care is hoping that someone who hears his story will make him their son. Deniro is a sweet child who is not letting losses in his young life deter his hope of a mom or dad to call his own.

If you ask Deniro the one place he would like to go if he had a choice, he will tell you Chuck E. Cheese.  This third grader loves pizza, games and the giant, cuddly mouse mascot.  "If I see him, I'll hug him," said Deniro.

When Deniro sees Chuck E., his eyes light up and he runs to hug him.  He lets his happiness shine through, but all the while, Deniro also knows the importance this day holds in his dream to have a family.  It is something he has talked about a lot to Department of Children & Family Services adoption specialist, Katrina Evans.  "It's so important to him," she said, "he talks about it often and recognizes the importance of having one and I think having that stability and security is just going to go a long way with him."

Deniro definitely has a soft side - something that comes out when you sit down and have a one-on-one conversation with him.  "I like to read books and I like to talk to my friends," he said.

Deniro has been in a foster home for several months and just saw a foster brother moved to an adoptive placement.  While that is great news for that child - this one has a heavy heart.  "I miss my older brother," he said, "he's kind of like a friend.  He's always there for me."

Someone who is still there for Deniro today is his foster father, Wiley Shaw, Jr., training this young man in the polite ways of a gentleman.  "He is very respectful.  He was taught before he got to me, but we've continued to train him into being a gentleman," he said.

Deniro describes himself as polite and a few other endearing qualities.  "I would say I'm kind of funny and I'm kind of handsome," he said.

This sweet third-grader is ready to start a new school year and a new chapter in life with a mom or dad that will embrace him.  When I asked Deniro what kind of parents he would like to have, his response was simple: "A nice parent."

Deniro is ready to be adopted today through the Department of Children & Family Services.  Call 337-491-2470 to make an inquiry about Deniro or any of the other children that can be adopted through foster care.
