SAN FRANCISCO – Glenn Winston, a former running back for the Northwood University football team, has signed a three-contract with the San Francisco 49ers.
Winston becomes the fifth former Timberwolf to sign a contract with an NFL team, joining Dedrick Roper, Kyle Clement, Chris Wilson and Charleston Hughes.
A native of Detroit and a graduate of Denby Tech, Winston came to Northwood after starting his collegiate career at Michigan State. He played one season at Northwood, rushing for 717 yards and nine touchdowns in eight games played. Winston set a Northwood school record with five rushing touchdowns in NU's win over Quincy September 21.
Northwood will open the 2014 football season September 6 at Northern Michigan. The home opener for the Timberwolves is September 13 against Ferris State. Kickoff for home games this season will be 1 p.m.
