Moolenaar pulls away in primary election

Posted: Updated:
MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

It is that time once again,  as voters head to the polls for the primary election.

The biggest and most highly contested battle on the ballot, the race to succeed the retiring Dave Camp in Michigan's 4th congressional district.

Paul Mitchell tearfully conceded to State Senator John Moolenaar just before 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

It was a hard fought race for this seat and despite Moolenaar being the party choice, Mitchell gave him a run for his money.

In the end it looks like Mitchell's $5 million spent out of pocket just didn't pay off.

Moolenaar pulled away in the race for Michigan's 4th congressional district seat. Mitchell has all but conceded after learning the gap has widened as more of the voting has been counted.

Mitchell said at the end of the day no matter who wins he and Moolenaar are still both on the same team.

The 4th congressional district seat has been held by a republican for the past three decades.
