NEW YORK (AP) -

David Price struck out 10 in his Detroit debut and was long gone when Alex Avila homered in the 12th inning to lift the Tigers over the New York Yankees 4-3 Tuesday night.

Price pitched 8 2-3 innings and left with the score 3-all.

The Tigers got Price from Tampa Bay last Thursday in a three-team deal minutes before the trading deadline. The lefty ace got to keep his No. 14 -- center fielder Austin Jackson, who wore it with the Tigers, was sent to Seattle in the big swap.

Tigers outfielder Torii Hunter left the game after being hit in the left hand by a pitch from New York Yankees reliever Dellin Betances.

Hunter was struck in the ninth inning of a tie game Tuesday night. A trainer came out for a check, and Hunter exited.

Betances hit Hunter with a curveball. An inning earlier, the All-Star reliever threw a 100 mph fastball to strike out Tigers star Miguel Cabrera.
