CHESTERFIELD, VA (WWBT) -

Police in Chesterfield and Colonial Heights are working together to determine whether or not three early morning convenience store robberies are connected.

The Circle K on Temple Avenue in Colonial Heights was robbed just after 3 a.m. Wednesday.

"A guy came in and wanted money," said the unidentified manager at the Circle K on Temple Avenue.

She says she's relieved she was able to hand over surveillance video to police. The robber had a shotgun or rifle and made off with lottery tickets and cash. But the manager says the crook didn't get much.

"We don't keep large amounts of cash…We put money in the safe as soon as we get it. We don't keep it in our drawer. It's so nobody can take money," she said.

Two hours later, a robber tried to hit two more Circle K's in Chesterfield.

"I'm not allowed to make a comment," said the manager at the store on the 2300 block of West Hundred Road, where the thief ran off without getting any cash.

It didn't take long for a robber to then show up to the Circle K on Willis Road back in Chesterfield.

A nearby business owner says he saw several police cars as well as a K9 unit shortly after the incident. Investigators believe the same guy hit both Chesterfield stores -- and even had a getaway car awaiting him.

"It's terrible. I don't know what the world is coming to with people out here doing crazy stuff," said shopper John Cahill.

Shoppers find the robbery spree alarming.

"It's disgraceful. It really is…It makes me just want to stay out here," Javetta Evans added.

All stores re-opened shortly after the criminals paid them a visit.

"Times are hard but you can't imagine it being that hard where you've got to go rob somebody," Cahill said.

Colonial Heights police say the robber that struck there is 6', 190 pounds. He was wearing khaki pants and a white t-shirt. The robber in Chesterfield is a dark completed Black male, the same height and weight as the Colonial Heights robber but he was wearing black pants. He's believed to be in a cream colored Dodge Magnum.
