City officials find water main leak

BAY CITY -

Bay County has declared a state of emergency due to the water shortage caused by a water main break.

Crews started searching for the break on Saturday, which was draining as much as 10 million gallons per day.

The owner of a property near the wastewater treatment plant said he saw an unusual amount of standing water on the property. The owner, who wished to remain anonymous, called the city and crews were immediately dispatched to the location.

City officials confirmed they have found the leak next to the waste treatment plant on Trumbull.

A water usage ban was in effect for all consumers who receive their water from the city of Bay City Water Treatment Plant which includes most of Bay County.

Communities that were NOT affected by this ban include:

  • City of Auburn
  • Village of Linwood
  • Frankenlust Township west of I-75
