Back to the Bricks underway in Flint

Posted: Updated:

Classic car lovers were in heaven on Wednesday checking out the thousands of vintage cars that were rolling through downtown Flint.

Back to the Bricks started Tuesday, but Wednesday was when it really started to kick into gear.

Hundreds of classic cars flooded local streets as car enthusiasts from all over turned out to show off their rides and admire others.

Even business owners were excited about the celebration.

When you own a small restaurant and you have the possibility of serving hundreds of thousands of customers over a few days the prep work can seem overwhelming.

"We start stocking, actually saucing and stuff last week. I began making, you know like 10 gallons of ranch dressing, cole slaw dressing," said Nadine Cook, owner of Churchill's Food & Spirits.

Cook said at Churchill's almost everything is homemade, so you really have no choice but to start early.

"Most of our stuff here is made from scratch, so we, you know, 5 gallons of salsa and that kind of stuff. So yeah, it's a pretty large endeavor," Cook said.

Cook said her staff is small, but they really step it up for Back to the Bricks.

"I've got nothing but love and gratitude, so everybody is on board and we really look forward to it," Cook said.

So whether you're in the food business or the room business or the business of just looking at great old cars, everyone's looking forward to a great week and an even greater weekend on the bricks.

Over a half a million people are expected to attend this year's event.

The event continues through Saturday, Aug. 16. Click here for a schedule of events.
