SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Spartanburg woman accused of trying to sell a stolen cell phone has been arrested, according to Spartanburg Public Safety.

On Aug. 16, Sara Dixon reported to police that she was at Club Paparazzi on East Main Street when her phone was stolen from her purse at the bar.

"It's dark inside, you can't really see if someone's messing with your stuff... it happens all the time, it's sad," said Dixon.

Dixon's boyfriend started texting the phone and an unknown person started replying and asking for $250 in exchange for the phone, according to the report.

"We were trying to bargain. We only have $50. We were like, is that going to be good enough? It's really important, we want the pictures off from it. She was like, the pictures have been deleted, $250 or no phone," said Dixon.

Dixon said she and her boyfriend agreed to meet at Pete's Restaurant and bring $250 and no police.

"It was nerve wracking. Anything could have happened... my heart was beating fast, that's why I didn't even get out of the car," said Dixon.

An officer responded to the restaurant and waited while Dixon's boyfriend met with the suspect, who was identified as 34-year-old Shanetta Wheeler, the report said.

When Wheeler approached the victim's car, the officer pulled in and began speaking with her, the report said.

Police said Wheeler gave the officer a fake name.

Wheeler told the officer she was not trying to sell the phone back to the victim and she was just going to give it back to her, according to the report.

She was then placed under arrest and charged with possession of stolen goods and providing false information to police.

"We asked not to press charges... I didn't want her to get in trouble at all, I just wanted my phone back," said Dixon.

Wheeler bonded out of jail early Sunday morning.
