Students, staff at U of M-Flint excited for new school year

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

Summer vacation is over and it's move-in time for thousands of college students across Mid-Michigan.

This week, students at the University of Michigan-Flint are settling into their new homes for the school year.

Incoming freshman said they're ready to start the next chapter of their lives and that journey is leading students to a couple of new things on campus this year.

Spokesperson Jennifer Hogan said one of the biggest changes is the university's boss.

"The most new and exciting thing we have at U of M-Flint is our new chancellor, Chancellor Susan Borrego. She's brand new, she's been on the job for a few weeks and she's really looking forward to the start of the school year and see all the students come back to campus," Hogan said.

Another addition this year is in the physical therapy program. Hogan said this new program's the first of it's kind in the state.

"We are the only campus to offer this PhD in physical therapy and it's a very important degree for people to seek and it really fills an important need, not just in the state, but across the country for more physical therapists to have PhD's," Hogan said.

That new physical therapy doctorate, along with the program's reputation, sealed the deal for Daniel Olson.

"I was skating for the U of M team and I was told by their coaches they have one of the best physical therapy programs in the state, so they told me a lot of people come here for their masters instead of Ann Arbor, so that was one of my reasons I chose U of M too," Olson said.

From administration down to the student body everyone at the university seems revved up and ready for the brand-new school year.
