Hazy, hot, and humid conditions to start the work week

Posted: Updated:

A sweltering blast of heat and humidity will arrive here in Mid-Michigan as the new work week gets underway.

A large zone of high pressure that has been slowly migrating across the county over the last week will at last stretch its reach into the Great Lakes, giving us at least a few true dogs days of Summer.

The outdoor thermostat will be cranked up to just about 90 degrees, along with dew points rising into the highs 60s to near 70. That will put things easily into the uncomfortable range, but will certainly make for some good pool or beach weather.

With the start of school just about a week away, you could say that the arrival of the hotter weather is timed perfectly to give the kids one last taste of Summer before hitting the books.

The threat of thunderstorms will follow shortly behind the arrival of the heat and humidity, with some unsettled weather possible Monday night through Friday morning.

The bulk of the heat will be confined to Monday and Tuesday, along with the greatest chances of seeing widespread storms across the region. By midweek, temperatures will settle back into the low 80s, but the chance of scattered thunderstorms will still exist until about the end of the work week.

Stay cool and enjoy this final week of August!
