Man dies testing ultralight being offered for sale

Posted: Updated:

Authorities in western Michigan say that a New Mexico man has died while test-flying an ultralight aircraft that was being offered for sale.

Kent County sheriff's Sgt. Russ Larson tells The Grand Rapids Press that the crash happened about 11:30 a.m. Sunday at Lowell Airport.

It's in Vergennes Township, just north of Lowell and about 15 miles east of Grand Rapids.

Larson says the man drove from out-of-state to test the airplane, which an area resident was selling.

WOOD-TV says authorities have identified the dead man as 67-year-old Bryan Bowker of Edgewood, New Mexico.

Witnesses say he took off successfully once but crashed while trying a second takeoff.
