MESA, AZ (CBS5) -

A Mesa doctor accused of sexually abusing two patients, with one of the cases dating back to 2006, has pleaded not guilty.

Dr. Manuel Abrante entered his plea Monday. His next court date is Oct. 28.

The Mesa Police Department said a 45-year-old woman recently reported being inappropriately touched by Abrante at his office.

The woman said the abuse happened about 9:45 a.m. during her third appointment with Abrante.

Mesa police detectives learned there was a prior report against Abrante from 2006.

The 54-year-old woman, who was 45 years old at the time of the alleged assault, said she was afraid to report the incident for fear of retaliation. She said now she wants to press charges because she doesn't want it to happen to others.

Abrante, 56, was taken into police custody and he said at the advice of his attorney he wouldn't be answering any questions, according to the police report.

Mesa police said Abrante faces two felony counts of sexual abuse.
