Patriotic pizza serves up slices of American pride

American pride just got a whole lot cheesier at Burton's new Patriotic Pizza. The pizzeria opened two weeks ago, and customers are flocking to the family business.

Patriotic Pizza's co-owner Tom Cox said the idea for creating such a patriotic shop came from his own life experience: "I just have a passion for the service being a prior service member."

The joint oozes Americana as red, white and blue are seen throughout the entire shop. The pizzeria, which serves homemade thin-crust, round-crust and deep-dish pizzas, is whipping up salutes by the slice. "Just a way to give back kind of thing, say thank you," employee Adam Silva said.

Cox said veterans are saying thank you right back.

"That's what we were hoping for," he said. "You know, that it would touch them, and they would just be like, 'This is cool.' You know, just a bit of a thumb's up."

The secret to the delicious pies? Silva's not telling, "It's concealed - something special, though."

Cox said he's bringing his military mindset to the pizzeria. "Just like our service members are taking care of us, when it comes to food, we want to take care of our customers," he said.

The pizzeria is offering Military Mondays where service members will receive 10 percent off every Monday. Cox said he hopes to create a donation bin for people to drop off items or money to go toward care packages for troops overseas.
