Crime Stoppers tip leads to arrest of Michigan's most wanted sex offender

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The man authorities have called Michigan's most wanted sex offender is behind bars.

Flint and state police captured Anthony Beaurem earlier this week.

"It feels great. It's been over a year and a half that we've been searching for him," state trooper Rich Jones said.

Beaurem was one of Michigan's most wanted. Now he's just a picture in the wanted wall of fame. His mug shot with the word "arrested" written on it is in Jones' office. The sex offender coordinator is glad to see him off the street.

"He had the assault with intent to murder. He had the armed robberies. He is someone that's out there hurting people in the community," Jones said.

Jones said he had a difficult time catching the fugitive until a tip from Crime Stoppers changed everything.

"It led to a confidential informant that finally, just this past week, gave us a lead to where they could find him," Jones said.

Beaurem is facing a laundry list of charges. He was captured last Tuesday on East Atherton Road in Flint.

"I'm extremely happy that the services that we have are working," said Julie Lopez, director for Crime Stoppers in Genesee County.

She urges more people to call in tips like the one that took down Beaurem.

"Crime Stoppers is 100 percent anonymous. The phone calls go to Canada. There's no information that is personal about the person calling in," Lopez said.

Meanwhile, Jones is hoping to get more useful information from the community. He said there are still plenty of suspects he needs to apprehend.

"I'm going to keep working it. I'm not going to quit. They're going to be on the wall and I'm going to keep searching for them until I find them," Jones said.
