Residents frustrated with road construction project

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Labor Day may mark the end of summer, but construction season is still in high gear across Mid-Michigan.

A project in Genesee County has only been going on for a week or so, but it already has drivers putting on the brakes.

Lindsay Blight estimates she has been late for work at her job at Rite Aid a few times since a new construction project began right across the street in Grand Blanc Township a few weeks ago.

"It's been a bit of a problem, why? It just takes a long time, a long time especially the Dort Highway and Saginaw light there, takes a long time to go through it and people don't seem to know that they are doing," Blight said.

The resurfacing project on South Saginaw Road between Hill Road and Maple Road has traffic moving at slower pace these days and drivers are a bit frustrated.

Lynn Leebeck lives just a few miles from the construction. She said where Dort Highway and Hill Road intersect is congested.

"It's been up for at least a week and a half and it's kind of a pain in the tush because no matter which direction you're approaching the intersection from there is likely to be a backup," Leebeck said.

The intersection is surrounded by businesses. Genesee County Road Commissioner John Daly said at least one or two lanes will be open all times and access to businesses maintained.

Blight said maybe she'll have better luck getting to work on time.

"In normal traffic I would make it on time. This has caused me not to, it's a headache," Blight said.
