Severe weather possible Friday - WNEM TV 5

First Warn 5

Severe weather possible Friday

Posted: Updated:

We started our Friday tracking a few showers and thunderstorms, with widespread rain covering northern Lower.

This heavy morning rain has caused a flash flood watch to be issued until 2 PM for Alcona, Iosco, Ogemaw, and Roscommon counties.

Many will see a break from the rain during the mid and late morning hours. However, a cold front will move through the Lower Peninsula this afternoon, bringing with it scattered showers and storms.

Parts of mid-Michigan are under an elevated risk for severe weather this afternoon. This includes part of the Thumb, along with the I-69 corridor.

The primary threats with any storm this afternoon will be strong wind and large hail.

Temperature-wise, we were off to a very warm start. Temps were in the 70s, which is around 20° above average. Highs today will remain above average and reach the low/mid 80s.

After this cold front moves through today, we will see a big drop in temperatures for the weekend. Saturday highs will only reach the low 70s.

There will also be clearing behind this front, so expect plenty of sunshine this weekend.

Remain alert today and keep updated with WNEM on-air, online, and on your mobile device.
