New coffee and tea shop opens in downtown Saginaw

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw's downtown is beginning to bounce back, thanks to the opening of some new businesses.

Some of the newest additions include a new coffee and tea shop and the Bancroft apartments.

"I'm overwhelmed, it's awesome," said Darren Pfruender, general manager of the Bancroft.

The highly anticipated coffee shop in the historic Bancroft building is officially open for business.

Pfruender moved back to Mid-Michigan from the windy city to help add some swank to Saginaw.

"Being in Chicago for several years and coming back, I really didn't expect to find anything of this caliber and I'm surprisingly overwhelmed and it's a good thing," he said.

Saginaw Mayor Dennis Browning was getting a bite at the new brewhouse. He said businesses like this will continue to revive the downtown area.

"This is exciting for Saginaw to see this kind of growth going on here and more things happening in the future," Browning said.

It's that kind of momentum Pfruender said he's proud to be a part of.

"It just kind of means a step forward. The businesses that were here are still here and we're just adding to it. We just want to be a part of the community and help in any way we can to strengthen downtown," Pfruender said.
