Volunteers build ramp for disabled woman

Posted: Updated:
BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Nearly a month ago TV5 brought you the story of a woman confined to a wheelchair. She was in desperate need of a ramp to her house.

She reached out to the TV5 Rescue Squad and the community stepped up in a big way.

Some good Samaritans showed up to build a wheelchair ramp Wednesday morning. Karyn Courter needed the ramp because she's confined to a wheelchair. Her husband is also wheelchair-bound.

One of the volunteers was there after hearing about Courter's plight through the TV5 Rescue Squad.

The Bay County Disability Services resource center put together the custom-built ramp.

Normally a ramp such as this could cost upwards of $2,400, but thanks to grants, the nonprofit agency can provide it to Courter for free.

The volunteers love helping out people like Courter.

"It's giving back to the community in some way or another in a way that I had never thought about doing before," Gary Bremer said.
