A flag that flew over a naval ship during the Pearl Harbor bombing will be displayed during a service marking the attack's 73rd anniversary on a decommissioned destroyer near Bay City.
The Bay City Times reports (http://bit.ly/1wrmZWY
) that the service is scheduled for Sunday at the USS Edson in Bangor Township. The ceremony is set for the pier and an open house will follow on the floating museum.
The tattered flag flew over the USS Selfridge during the attack on Dec. 7, 1941. It had been salvaged off the Edson and sent earlier this year to the Saginaw Valley Naval Ship Museum from a New York museum.
The memorial also will feature a color guard and firing squad, and participants plan to release a wreath on the Saginaw River.Copyright 2014 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. This material may not be published, broadcast, rewritten or redistributed.
