Real life Grinch steals woman's Christmas presents

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Imagine saving all year to buy Christmas gifts for your family and just as the holiday approaches, they are stolen from your home.

That's what recently happened to a single mother and grandmother in Mid-Michigan.

"Pretty bad for my kids and my grand kids presents. It was their first Christmas," Tracy Bennett said.

She said she's heartbroken after a real life Grinch stole Christmas gifts from her home. She had been excited to share the gifts she'd bought for her 9-year-old twin sons and infant grandchildren.

"No heart. To take from a bunch of little kids, I mean it was obvious what it was," Bennett said.

She filed a police report and estimates she lost about $700 worth of presents for the kids. She said she can't imagine who would have done this.

"I doubt that it was somebody we know. It was probably someone who sees us come, go, what we leave with, that type of thing," she said.

Bennett's childhood friend Tania Becker reached out to the TV5 Rescue Squad for help. She has a message for the so-called Grinch who stole those presents.

"I'm going to restore what you've stolen from them. I'm gonna restore what you've stolen from my friend and I'm going to restore her heart. So you haven't taken that. I'm gonna restore Christ in Christmas for them," Becker said.

Bennett said she's grateful for that support.

"I want to thank Tania and all my friends for helping me," she said.

She's hoping others will help out too so she can still give her kids and grand-kids the Christmas they deserve.

If you would like to help her family family replace those stolen Christmas gifts the Red Horse Bar in Saginaw is collecting donations Dec. 20 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m.
