The Saginaw Spirit defeated the Windsor Spitfires 2-1 at the WFCU Centre on Thursday night.
The Saginaw Spirit and Windsor Spitfires saw a goalless, but eventful first period. Both teams fought hard, but the Spirit and Spitfires were unable to find the back of the net and open the scoring. After the first 20 minutes of play Windsor led shots on goal over Saginaw 9-7.
Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy opened the scoring and netted his 16th goal of the season at 4:37 of the second period, with assists going to Michael Holmes and Devon Paliani. Nick Moutrey cushioned the Spirit lead at the 12:38 mark, scoring his 14th goal of the season with the help of Jesse Barwell, making it a 2-0 game. At 19:29 of the second period Jamie Lewis put the lone tally on the board for Windsor, cutting into Saginaw's lead. Patrick Sanvido and Ryan Moore were credited with the assists on the play. The teams headed to the locker room after the second period with the scoreboard reading 2-1 Saginaw and shots favoring the Spirit 11-10.
Saginaw and Windsor did not see another goal in the third period and finished the game with the Spirit ahead of the Spitfires 2-1. Final shots on goal read Windsor 38, Saginaw 28.
The Saginaw Spirit will see one more away game before they return to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, December 20th for some holiday hockey when they play host to the Windsor Spitfires. Puck is set to drop at 7:11 p.m. The Spirit will be at the RBC Centre as they take they ice against the Sarnia Sting on Friday, December 19th at 7:05 p.m.
