SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) - A local church is expected to close its doors after more than 100 years due to a dwindling membership.

The final service was held Sunday at Memorial Presbyterian Church in Bay City. The church opened in the late 1800's. Pas to Jon Essex says that the church had a booming member ship of nearly 200 people members in teh 1940's and 1950's. The congregation now numbers about 32.

Members voted in November to close. There has been some talk amongst the members as to where they may go to attend church services after Memorial Presbyterian closes.

Pastor Essex said they may choose to transfer their memberships to different Presbyterian churches, like Westminster Presbyterian and First Presbyterian, which also are located in Bay City.

Saginaw-based Presbytery of Lake Huron is to take over the building. The group oversees about 50 churches.
