Bitterly cold morning with a record low temperature

Posted: Updated:

Our bitterly cold weather continues today, and morning temperatures are well below 0.

We've set at least one new record – the previous record low temperatures in Flint was -13° from 1963. The new record from this morning is -21°.

Most of the morning will remain below 0, and we'll make it to around 2° by lunchtime.

Wind chill advisories will expire at 8 AM for the Tri-Cities, I-69 corridor, and Thumb. The advisory will expire at 10 AM for The US-127 corridor.

Expect a few peeks of sunshine, with overall partly to mostly cloudy skies. Outside of a few stray morning flurries, it will be a dry day.

Highs will be close to 10°, which is more than 20° below the seasonal average of 32°. We will likely be too warm to break the coldest high temperature on record for this day. The current coldest high for February 16th is 7°.

We will make it to the low 20s on Tuesday, but we will also be tracking our next chance of scattered light snow. Expect less than an inch of accumulation by tomorrow evening.
