Biting cold, wind chill warnings

Posted: Updated:

It was a bitterly cold morning with temperatures across mid-Michigan well below zero.

Wind chill warnings are in effect for all of mid-MI through the morning, as our wind chill values have been -20 to -30°.

These wind chill warnings will expire at different times throughout the day. The warning will run through noon for Clare, Isabella, and Gratiot counties. It will expire at 5 PM for the Tri-Cities, I-69 counties, and the Thumb. It will remain in effect until 7 PM for all counties north of the Tri-Cities.

Highs will be on either side of 0 today, a far cry from our seasonal average of 33°. We will see a slight chance for an isolated flurry, otherwise expect some sunshine today.

The frigid air sticks around tonight, and we will once again be well below zero. Be sure to keep your skin covered while outdoors for the next 24 hours, as hypothermia or frostbite can develop in less than 30 minutes under these conditions.
