Meaning of mystery billboard gets revealed

Posted: Updated:

A billboard with a strange message was turning heads in Genesee County.

They've sprung up in the Flint area along I-75. The billboard read somebody is going to get knocked out. It had Mid-Michigan residents questioning its meaning.

"I think it might be for Anthony Dirrell. I know he has a title defense coming up so I hope he knocks somebody out," Crawford said.

Dirrell is a Flint native and current WBC super middleweight champion.

"I think I know the answer. I think Dirrell going to knock him out," Crawford said.

The answer was revealed at noon on Monday.

"We just wanted to let everybody around the city know that Anthony has got a huge fight coming up," Dan Sowden said.

The billboard was all part of a promotion blitz for Anthony Dirrell. He is defending his title next month. His publicist, Sowden, wants to create a lot of buzz for the fight.

"Get the name out there and let the whole world know. Start with the city and then hopefully the whole world is going to know who he is," Sowden said.

Dirrell is in Florida training for the big fight so he couldn't be here for the unveiling of the billboard. However, he said he's excited about the ad campaign.

"As y'all know my billboards just went up. If you guessed it you was right. Gotta fight coming up April 24, Spike TV. If you can't get there you know watch it on TV, but it's in Chicago at the UIC Pavilion. You know make sure y'all tune in or get there. Thank you," Dirrell said.

Meanwhile, his opponent, Badou Jack has only one loss and is eager to win the bout. Sowden thinks Jack is going to have a bad night on April 24.

"He's an up and coming fighter who's going to have a very very tough thing to face on April 24. You know he's going to have his second loss and you know that's about it," Sowden said.
