Magic Johnson coming to Mid-Michigan

Posted: Updated:

A big name is heading to Mid-Michigan.

Magic Johnson, NBA champion and entrepreneur, will be in the area to benefit the Saginaw Promise. Johnson is visiting the companies who made a special donation to the charity.

Those companies include Dow Corning, Hemlock Semiconductor, the Dow Chemical Company and the Saginaw Spirit Charitable Foundation. Together they pledged $40,000 to the charity, which supports post-secondary education, the charity said in a news release.

Johnson will attend a Boy Scout breakfast on Friday, March 20 at 7:15 a.m. The event is free to attend, but there is a request for donations.

It takes place at the Great Hall in Midland. Reservations must be made by the close of business on Thursday by calling Marilyn Costigan at 810-235-8728.

After the breakfast Johnson will head to the Dow Corning and Hemlock Semiconductor Career Fair to address high school students. This event is not open to the public.

On Saturday Johnson will be at the Saginaw Spirit Hockey Game at the Dow Event Center. Tickets to the game are available and can be purchased by calling 989-497-7747.

"We value and appreciate the generosity and support of Mr. Johnson for the Saginaw Promise and what his support and involvement have meant for the 296 student scholars who have been awarded scholarships in the past three years,"  Deborah Sanchez, director of the Saginaw Promise, said in the news release.
