Uptown Bay City project transforming skyline, attracting residents and visitors alike

BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

Where once was an overgrown industrial complex now sets a multimillion-dollar development on Bay City's storied waterfront.

Dow Corning and Chemical Bank were some of the first to move in alongside the Saginaw River's Uptown Bay City development, but Shaheen Development Marketing Coordinator Stuart Kelly said those are just two of the 17 projects.

"Real Seafood opens May 6; that's right behind me," Kelly said. "On our first floor, we already have two businesses open - The Fix coffee shop and Uptown Grill, which is available for breakfast and lunch. The Courtyard by Marriott is being constructed; that will open this fall. We have a mixed-use commercial building that will open next year with restaurants and retail and office space, and we also have rental units that will be moving in this June."

There are also condominiums available for purchase. Starting at $149,000 for a one-bedroom unit and $249,000 for a two-bedroom unit, one can be a stone's throw from downtown and wake up to river views. Five of the 20 units are already sold.

Century 21 Signature Realty Realtor Andrew Hauck said these are far from cookie-cutter, allowing each homeowner to customize their new condo to their liking - "your ceramic tile flooring, your hardwood floors, your light fixtures, cabinets, counter tops, everything."

As the weather heats up, Kelly expects the foot traffic will, too.

"We expect it to be a very busy spring for us," Kelly said.

If you're interested in checking out the condos, there are open houses every Sunday from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., excluding holidays. If you'd like a private showing, you can schedule one here.
