BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) - A woman was seriously hurt after being hit while riding her motorcycle and the person who hit her was an off-duty Michigan State Police Lieutenant, who had allegedly been drinking.

According to family, Hilary Briggs was driving her motorcycle on May 2 on State Park Drive in Bangor Township. That's when they say she was rear-ended by a drunk driver.

Michigan State Police confirm that driver was a 20-year veteran of the Michigan State Police, Jason Teddy. He has been charged with operating while intoxicated causing serious injury. He was arraigned on May 22.

His blood alcohol content was .153.

Bay City defense attorney Ed Czuprynski said an arraignment nearly three weeks after being charged with drunk driving is unusual.
