INDIANAPOLIS (AP) -- The winner of the 99th Indianapolis 500 is Juan Pablo Montoya. He also won the race in 2000. Driving for TeamPenske Montoya, who started 15th, roared back from being in 30th place to get the win in front of Will Power. Finishing third was Charlie Kimball. Pole sitter Scott Dixon wound up fourth. The victory is the 16th for Penske in the 500 and by winning the race he joins Chip Ganassi as the only owners to win the Daytona 500 and the Indianapolis 500 in the same year. Ganassi did it in 2010 while Joey Logano won the Daytona 500 for Penske in February.
NASCAR driver Jeff Gordon drove the pace car before heading to Charlotte for the Coca-Cola 600 Sprint Cup race.
Retired TV host David Letterman was at the race to watch the team he sponsors. His IndyCar team paid tribute to the former "Late Show" host by putting a gap-toothed, smiling caricature of his face on driver Oriol Servia's yellow car for the race. Said Indianapolis native Letterman, "it's the highlight of my career.
