MONITOR TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

It's the story of another mom and pop shop losing out to big business.

Monitor Pharmacy near Bay City is selling out to CVS. They'll open a new store just down the road.

Monitor has been owned by the Bouckaert Family since 1966.

Michael Bouckaert said it was a decision he didn't make lightly.

"There's a lot of sadness because we've had generations of families," said Bouckaert. "Personally, I have been working in here since seventh grade, so over 46 years. I've watched kids grow up, families have kids, and their kids have kids, and it's very difficult."

But if you're a customer of Monitor Pharmacy, there will still be some familiarity at the new CVS.

The company plans to keep some of the same staff.

Monitor Pharmacy will reopen under a new business plan and name just down the road, selling craft beer and other marketplace goods.
