Weather clears as Bavarian Festival kicks off

Posted: Updated:

The dress code for the 2015 Bavarian Festival varied Friday.

"I knew it was chilly, I didn't know it was going to be that chilly until we got out," said Kaitlyn Stephens, a Mount Morris resident.

"This morning when we were up and about it was raining and then it stopped just before the festival began," said Trisha Way-Uphold, the festival organizer.

From coats and pants, to shorts and T-shirts, Mother Nature didn't stop people from coming out to enjoy Friday's festival.

"It is a little chilly but if you're dancing the night away, I don't think we're going to notice it too much," said Bonnie Miller.

Miller and her husband traveled all the way from Windsor, Canada for the Bavarian festival.

"It's one weekend out of the year that we indulge in. We do what we want,  we drink what we want," says Miller.

This is 57th annual Bavarian Festival and each year it offers food that people can't seem to get enough of, great music, and performances for the whole family to enjoy. And of course, there's the beer.

"The beer is delicious, we like the beer. And we like the pitchers," said Miller.

If the great food and drinks aren't already enough to make you visit the festival, amusement rides are sure to keep everyone entertained.

"This is her first year out, so she got to ride a ride for the first time and have her first elephant ear," said Kaitlyn Stephens as her toddler was experiencing the festival for the first time.

Festival organizers hope the weekend's improving weather conditions will bring the crowds out to enjoy a little German heritage.

"This weekend we are expecting about 200,000 people in town and that is including the parade members," says  Way-Uphold.
