LANSING, MI (WNEM) -

A state report forecasts increased demand for energy but lower prices during the summer and the remainder of the year.

The Michigan Public Service Commission's recent summer energy appraisal says the electricity market likely will increase the amount of natural gas-fueled generation compared to other fuels as a result of better prices. The report says residential and commercial customers should see lower heating and cooling bills as well as cheaper prices at the gas pump.

The projected 2015 sales increases are 1.4 percent for electricity, 1.3 percent for natural gas and 1 percent for motor gasoline. The appraisal notes that rising demand assumes a return to normal summer weather and continued lower prices for oil and gas.

The agency began releasing the appraisals in 1978.
