Local officer loses battle with cancer

The Midland Police Department regretfully informs you of the passing of Sgt. Robert Booth. Sgt. Booth passed after a lengthy yet valiant fight with cancer. Sgt. Booth will be missed by all that know him.

MIDLAND, MI (WNEM) -

A local police department has lost one of its own.

The Midland Police Department said Sgt. Robert Booth has passed away after a lengthy, yet valiant fight with cancer. He died on June 28.

Booth was from the Freeland area. He previously worked as a reserve officer in Frankenmuth and as a patrol officer in Coleman and Carrollton Township before he joined the Midland Police Department.

He was with the Midland Police Department since 1999.

"Rob's commitment to community service and his profession reaches well beyond the boundaries of jurisdictional and county lines. We are greatly saddened by this loss," the Saginaw Township Police Department posted on its Facebook page.

Public viewing is scheduled for July 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Smith Miner Funeral Home, 2700 W. Wackerly Road in Midland.

Booth's funeral is at Midland Baptist Church, 5009 Jefferson, on July 2 at 11 a.m. There will be graveside honors at Pine Grove Cemetery on Midland Road in Tittabawassee Township, following the church service.
