BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A Bay City man is dead after losing control of his motorcycle while running from police, Michigan State Police said.

State troopers tried to pull over Christopher Henry, 47, just before 10 p.m. on Sunday. They suspected he was drinking and riding, police said.

Tri-City post commander Dave Simon said when they turned on the sirens Henry took off.

“My officers were a couple of blocks behind him at Michigan when they observed him lay down his motorcycle. When they arrived to the scene it was apparent to them that he had suffered fatal injuries,” Simon said.

The motorcycle struck a utility pole and a tree, police said. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.

The accident happened near Madison and Kosciuszko Avenue in Bay City.

There were no other vehicles involved in the chase or the crash and Henry was the only person injured, police said.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident. Toxicology and autopsy results are pending.
