LINWOOD BEACH, MI (WNEM) -

Five people were rescued in the Saginaw Bay after their boat began to sink.

Central Dispatch received a call from people on a 1986 Hurricane float style boat about 10 a.m. Monday. The Coast Guard was notified the boat had begun taking on water and they dispatched a boat to the scene, the Coast Guard said.

The sinking boat lit a flare and alerted nearby fishing boats in the area of a problem. All five passengers of the boat were in the water when help arrived, the Coast Guard said.

People aboard nearby fishing boats helped the five people out of the water and took them to the Linwood Beach Marina.

No one was injured, the Coast Guard said.

The Coast Guard would like to remind boaters to prepare for survival. Boaters should take a marine radio, wear life jackets, and tell someone where they’re going to be.
