School district places advertisement to recruit new students, retain old

Posted: Updated:

A school television ad has become an effort to recruit new students and retain old ones in the Bay County community of Pinconning.

Candie Klemm has a child enrolled in the district, and she said she’s happy with the education.

"They work with the kids when they need it. Like one on one sometimes," Klemm said.

Superintendent Mike Vieu said the district has spent $5,000 on that ad. And he believes this commercial will pay big dividends

"You can safely say that if you recruit five to ten students it’s going to be well worth what you paid for as far as advertising," Vieu said.

Vieu said his district, like many in Mid-Michigan, are having to make tough cuts to make ends meet. But he's confident the exposure the commercial brings to this community will be beneficial.

"We decided to go with TV and we thought WNEM would be the best place to go,” Vieu said. “So right now I haven't seen the results as of yet but I'm sure it's going to make an impact."

Klemm is hoping to see more students in her child's classroom soon.

"I think other parents should give their kids a chance up in Pinconning," Klemm said.
